Program Description
STEMscopes is a comprehensive digital science curriculum that uses a hands-on, inquiry-based approach aligned to state standards. It is grounded in the 5E instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate) and is designed to promote student engagement through interactive investigations, real-world problem solving, and embedded formative assessments. The program includes digital and print resources as well as hands-on materials to support science instruction across diverse classrooms.
Program Outcomes
A 2023–24 quasi-experimental study examined the impact of STEMscopes on Grade 5 science achievement in an urban Texas school district. The final matched analytic sample included 990 students from 8 treatment schools using STEMscopes and 8 comparison schools using the district’s prior science curriculum. While not significant at the school level, STEMscopes students did significantly outperform comparison students on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Science test (effect size= +0.17), earning STEMscopes a Promising rating. Similar results were seen with a smaller number of students on the NWEA MAP Growth science assessment (effect size = +0.17).
