Program Description

Simple Solutions is a spiral review program designed to build long-term mastery of key math skills through daily distributed practice. Students complete short, standards-aligned lessons that revisit previously taught skills, promoting cumulative learning and retention. Each lesson includes ten to fifteen review problems, typically completed in about 10–15 minutes per day.

Teachers use the program alongside the core math curriculum to reinforce procedural fluency, problem-solving, and multi-step reasoning. The program’s spiral structure is designed to strengthen recall and reduce learning loss by continually reintroducing previously covered content. Simple Solutions can be implemented in grades K–8 for any subject (math, reading, science, or social studies) as a supplement to regular classroom instruction and integrates with online resources and automated scoring options that support data-driven review.

Program Outcomes

Simple Solutions Learning was evaluated in a quasi-experimental study during the 2024–2025 school year with 638 students in grades 3–5 across four schools in a Kentucky district. About 58% of students were economically disadvantaged, 10% had IEPs, and 6% were English Learners. Students who used Simple Solutions made significantly greater gains on the i-Ready Math assessment from fall to spring than similar students who did not use the program (effect size = +0.13). Results were strongest among fourth-grade students, who showed the greatest growth. These findings qualify Simple Solutions Learning for a Promising evidence rating.
