Program Description
Reveal Math is a comprehensive, balanced K–12 core mathematics program that targets conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application, along with mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Learning progressions connect mathematical ideas across grades. The program includes print, hands-on, and digital resources for exploration, discussion, and reflection.
In K–5, the lesson model combines activity-based and teacher-guided instruction. Each lesson begins with a Be Curious activity and offers two instructional options to explore and develop mathematical content. Lessons include embedded questions, instructional routines, and scaffolds to support mathematical discourse and access to grade-level learning.
Diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments inform personalized learning recommendations and differentiated instruction. The program also includes resources for reinforcement, practice and extension. Students are asked to make connections, explain their reasoning and learn from mistakes.
Program Outcomes
The impact of Reveal Math was evaluated in a quasi-experimental study of 8,625 students in grades K–5 in two Indiana school districts. Students used Reveal Math for one school year and were compared with matched students identified through the NWEA Similar Schools Reports. Program use varied across the two districts, with students averaging approximately 17 to 30 program launches and 13 to 28 assignments over the school year.
Across grades K–5, Reveal Math students had significantly greater growth on NWEA MAP Mathematics than comparison students (effect size = +0.08). Positive results were concentrated in grades 3–5, where Reveal Math students significantly outgained comparison students. These results qualify Reveal Math for a Promising rating.
It should be noted that comparison students had significantly greater growth in kindergarten and grade 1, while the grade 2 difference was not significant.
Staffing Requirements
Reveal Math is designed for implementation by the classroom teacher. No additional instructional staff are required. Schools or districts should identify a point of contact to coordinate digital setup and account access.
Professional Development/Training
McGraw Hill helps teachers and administrators meet math objectives through the Reveal Math program. To ensure successful implementation, McGraw Hill provides support from Curriculum Specialists and Math experts. There are four areas of professional development available (Implementation, Ancillary, Services, and Asynchronous) to ensure the effectiveness of the Reveal Math program. McGraw Hill collaborates with the district to tailor development efforts to align with the district’s needs for the Reveal Math adoption.
Technology
Reveal Math combines print and digital resources. Teachers need an internet-connected computer with a supported browser to access digital lesson presentations, instructional resources, assessments, reports, and professional learning. A projector or classroom display is recommended for whole-class presentations. Students need a supported internet-connected computer, Chromebook, or tablet to use digital practice and assessments; print resources are also available.
