In Read, Write, and Type! students are taught beginning reading with a strong emphasis on writing and typing. Students learn touch-typing keyboarding skills as they are learning phonemic awareness and phonics. Students receive four 50-minute sessions per week in groups of three, with one teacher per group.
One small study evaluated Read, Write, and Type! in comparison to controls. On Woodcock measures the average effect size was +0.44, qualifying the program for the ESSA “Strong” category.
For a class of 20 in the computer lab a couple of volunteers can help the teacher.
For small group work it is best to have one teacher for 4-5 students
