Program Description
Imagine Language & Literacy is an adaptive supplemental program designed to build core reading and academic language skills among students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The program provides individualized instruction with exercises tailored to each user’s needs, accelerating instruction levels based on the user’s rate of progress: vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, phonics and phonemic awareness. The program incorporates art, music, sports and multi-disciplinary subject matter while focused on literacy skills.
Program Outcomes
The impact of Imagine Language & Literacy was examined in three matched studies. The first study that took place in seventeen schools across three districts in Texas found that students using Imagine Language & Literacy showed significantly greater improvement in reading skills than students who did not use the program. Fourth and fifth grade students were compared on Texas state tests, with Imagine Language & Literacy students gaining more than control students (effect size = +0.18).
The second study took place during the 2022-2023 school year in a large Louisiana school district. The treatment group was comprised of students from 46 schools who logged any usage in the Imagine Language & Literacy program during the school year, whereas the control group was created from non-users with similar achievement and demographics. Over 1,000 students in grades 1-5, 100% English Learners and 92% Hispanic, were in the analysis and their academic performance was measured by Louisiana’s English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT). Overall, the performance of Imagine Language & Literacy students was significantly higher than the control group of students (effect size = +0.16).
The third study used data from the 2022–2023 school year to evaluate the difference between ELL students in Grade 1 through Grade 5 who used Imagine Language & Literacy and similar students who were supported through the use of an array of district-provided resources. Literacy proficiency outcomes were assessed for 2,762 students in grades 1-5 with the WIDA ACCESS assessment and 1,514 students in grades 4 and 5 with the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST). Students who used Imagine Language & Literacy demonstrated significantly greater growth than academically and demographically similar non-users on both the WIDA ACCESS (effect size = +0.14) and the FAST assessment (effect size = +0.12). The significant results in all three studies qualify Imagine Language & Literacy for the ESSA “Promising” category.
