Program Description
Beable provides a K-12 digital platform for literacy recovery. Beable customizes content to the student’s reading level, interests, and career goals. It is in English and Spanish with translation support to over 100+ languages. Beable is a multi-dimensional system that integrates literacy acceleration, intervention response, English language acquisition, core content mastery, and test preparation. Beable further connects literacy with career development and essential skills development – and by doing so makes literacy real and relevant while also aiming to help students become career- and life-ready. To ensure uninterrupted learning across circumstances, Beable is available to be used face-to-face, remotely, and in hybrid environments.
Program Outcomes
A study of Beable One was carried out with 2nd – 10th grade students across 27 schools in one school district in California. The nearly 10,000 students who used Beable One during the 2022-2023 school year were matched with 1,470 non-users who were similar on demographics and achievement. After one year, Beable One users in grades 2-8 significantly outperformed non-users on the i-Ready Reading Diagnostic (effect size =+0.07), earning the program a Promising ESSA rating.
Staffing Requirements
Beable supports independent student practice with feedback, complemented by teacher-led instruction for both full class and small group settings. Beable offers both teacher-led and independent learning supplemental materials that are aligned with effective instruction, progression of skills, progress monitoring, and measures of success.
Professional Development/Training
A comprehensive orientation for teachers and administrators is offered. Training can be onsite or online—in both a synchronous and asynchronous learning environment. Services also include class rostering and setup. Beyond the initial training, Beable provides ongoing support including account management and help desk access. Educators will have unlimited access to the Beable Academy, the self-paced, online professional development program.
Technology
Since Beable is web-based, the application supports the latest version of major browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge for PC, as well as Apple Safari on Mac. Beable is accessible via laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads with operating systems: Windows 10 or later, Chromebook OS latest version, and Mac OS 10.15 or later. Additionally, there is a browser version compatible with mobile devices that students can use while on landscape mode on their cell phones.
