Program Description
Student Success Skills (SSS) provides group counseling to students in small groups. The counseling focuses on helping students develop academic, social, and self-management skills. Students received 12 45-minute sessions over the course of a year. In the sessions, counselors encouraged students to identify issues of importance to them, set goals, and monitor progress. Peer coaching was used to teach prosocial skills.
Program Outcomes
SSS was evaluated in two studies. One found a positive effect at the student level on reading, qualifying the program for the ESSA “Promising” category. The average effect size on Florida state tests was +0.18.
